La Cueva beats Clovis 14-0

Freedom New Mexico

Hampered by poor field position, the Clovis Wildcats could muster little offense Saturday and suffered its first loss of the season.

La Cueva scored twice in the first half and beat Clovis 14-0.

Thirteen of Clovis' 17 offensive possessions ended in punts in the defensive struggle between the unbeaten teams. Sophomore Dakotah Yandell was forced into his first varsity start at quarterback by injuries to the Wildcats' top two signal-callers last week.

The teams combined for less than 300 yards of offense — La Cueva 173 and Clovis 109.

Cameron Padilla scored on a 1-yard run with just under two minutes left in the first half to give La Cueva a 14-0 halftime lead. Tyler Wolfe opened the scoring with a 9-yard run on La Cueva's first offensive possession.
