Hounds tie in home opener

The 24th-ranked Eastern New Mexico University Greyhounds needed sophomore midfielder Andy Wilkinson’s penalty kick with a little less more than three minutes left to earn a 1-1 tie Tuesday with Lubbock Christian at ENMU Soccer Field.

The teams played two 10-minute overtimes.

It was the home opener for the Hounds (2-0-1).

Adam Goodnight scored from about 20 yards on a through pass out with eight minutes left in regulation time to give LCU (3-0-1) the lead.

Junior Diego Santos appeared to have beaten leaping LCU goalkeeper Hunter Ganze high to the right side at the 7:39 mark of the second half. With just more than 20 minutes gone junior Kal Herbert’s header bounced off the far goal post. After Goodnight’s goal, freshman Tyler Wagley was the third

ENMU player to be thwarted by the frame of the Lubbock Christian goal.

Eastern with a 20-16 advantage in shots. Freshman Matt Malak made two saves for the Hounds while Ganze had five.
