Region IV housing office closed

The Region IV housing office in Clovis, located at 600 Mitchell Street in Clovis, was closed Friday.

Chris Herbert, Executive Director of Eastern Regional Housing Authority in Roswell, said the Roswell office took over supervision of the Mitchell Street office in 2009 when the state was consolidated from seven regions into three.

“The regions were consolidated in 2009,” Herbert said. “It’s just east, west and a northern region. We inherited that as part of the process. With the federal cuts, we don’t have the money to keep multiple offices open at the same time.”

The Clovis Housing Authority office on 2101 W. Grand Ave. remains open.

The Mitchell Street office had two employees, who were notified of the closure and laid off Friday, Herbert said.
