Samplings of recent calls to Portales law enforcement, according to police records:

Friday

• An officer was dispatched to a convenience store in the 1700 block of South Avenue D about 7 p.m. in reference to shoplifting. A dispatcher told him an employee had detained a subject.

The 16-year-old employee said he saw a 15-year-old boy put a package of candy worth $1.19 into the pocket of his shorts. The 16-year-old said he first noticed the younger boy along with two other juveniles looking at alcoholic beverages, and he knew they were under 21 years old because he recognized them from school.

The 16-year-old said he watched the group from inside the store’s beverage cooler and saw the 15-year-old take the candy. He confronted the younger boy, who took the candy out of his pocket.

The 15-year-old admitted he intended to steal the candy. The officer took the boy to Portales Police Department and released him to his mother.
