Citizen's Police Academy set for August

The 16th session of the Citizen’s Police Academy is set to begin in August.

Hosted through the joint efforts of the Clovis Police Department, Curry County Sheriff’s Office and New Mexico State Police, the academy is designed to give citizens a better understanding of the “rigors a police officer must endure,” according to a press release.

The 12 week academy will cover topics including criminal law, investigations, traffic law and crash investigations, drug interdiction and domestic violence, the release said.

Participants will also experience hands-on exercises in crime scene investigation, firearms, driving and other areas.

Classes will be held on Tuesday’s, beginning Aug. 23 through Nov. 8.
