Outdoor watering allowed July 4

PNT Reports

The City of Portales has canceled emergency water rationing effective today, as the water tanks have recharged enough to return to mandatory alternating-day outdoor watering, according to a city news release.

Monday, anyone can water to prevent possible fire from fireworks, City Manager Tom Howell said. Tuesday, he said, the alternating-day watering schedule is in effect.

The city requests that citizens comply with the mandatory watering schedule:

• Odd-numbered addresses may water on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

• Even-numbered addresses may water on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

• No watering is allowed on Mondays or between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

According to the release, businesses and residents are asked to prevent runoff and fugitive water as well as following ongoing water conservation practices. Failure to follow the mandatory watering schedule can result in disconnection of water service as per city ordinance.
