Samplings of recent calls received by Clovis-area law enforcement officers, according to reports:

Around noon June 23 an officer took a report of theft at the police department in the 300 block of Connelly Street.

A man said he left for work at 8 a.m. and when he returned around 10 a.m. he discovered someone had removed all four tires from his vehicle.

He said the vehicle was parked in front of his home in the 500 block of Calhoun Street.

The officer noted several neighbors were home but reported they didn’t hear or see anything unusual.

The tires were valued at more than $300.

About 6 a.m. an officer was called to the 200 block of Saturn Drive for a report of aggravated battery.

A woman told the officer her brother called their mother and told her he had been stabbed and was being treated at a Lubbock hospital. She told the officer she had heard the stabbing took place at a residence in west Clovis.

Hospital staff told the officer they could not release any information to him because the victim didn’t want police called.

The officer was able to locate blood on a sidewalk in front of a residence in the 1200 block of Chama Street and did interviews with residents who said they saw the incident.

The officer turned the information over to a detective.

Around 6 p.m. June 25 an officer responded to the 1900 block of Colonial Parkway for a report of vicious dogs.

A caller told dispatch two vicious pitbulls had tried to attack her husband.

When the officer got out and started walking toward the front of his car, he noted a pitbull began charging at him from the grass.

The officer said the dog was snarling and growing at him and approaching in a fast, aggressive manner so he drew his gun. When the dog continued to advance, the officer said he fired two shots into the animal and the dog turned and ran the other way. The officer located the dog deceased under a nearby bush and called animal control.

Several residents witnessed the incident and gave the officer statements and also reported the dog had been aggressive towards them.

A woman identified herself as the dog’s owner and when the officer told her the dog had been shot, he noted that she became very angry at him and said the dog was not vicious and would never have attacked anyone.

The officer provided her his contact information.

He noted he intended to summon the dog’s owners to court on the charges of owning vicious dogs and allowing an animal to run at large.

About 7 p.m. June 25 an officer responded to a residence in the 800 block of Lauralwood Drive for a situation check.

A man told dispatchers he had accidentally shot his rifle while cleaning his gun and was concerned the bullet had entered his neighbor’s apartment.

The man said he was cleaning his .223 caliber rifle and pulled the bolt back but had left a loaded magazine in the gun by mistake and when he released the bolt, it fired a round.

The officer contacted the neighbor, who said they didn’t hear anything and let them inside to look, but no exit hole was found in the adjacent wall.

The officer speculated the projectile had gotten trapped inside the wall.

He noted he saw no criminal intent but planned to check with the district attorney’s office to see if charges should be filed.
