About 6,000 attend Dairyfest

This year’s DairyFest drew about 6,000 people Saturday to the Curry County Events Center.

That’s a little more than half the 2009 draw of 11,000, said Michelle Heavyside, founder and director of United Dairy Women, which sponsors the annual event.

“I believe the heat had something to do with that,” Heavyside said in reference to triple-digit temperatures.

The event, with $1 admission, included demonstrations and interactive booths, games for kids and free samples of dairy products like milk, cheese and yogurt.

The event started in 2005. It was not held last year due to scheduling conflicts at the events center.
