Club notes — June 26

Daughters of the American Revolution

The monthly meeting of the Daughters of the American Revolution was held at the home of Vicky Stratton in Portales on June 10. Chapter Regent Pam Wallace called the meeting to order at 10 a.m. and conducted the opening rituals and the business portion of the meeting. Proclamations from Clovis and Portales mayors honoring Flag Day were read by Jessie Strauch and Cori Snobble.

Members had each received an invitation to a tea with the guest of honor Betsy Ross, portrayed by Gaylinda Long. She related some of her history and told how she had met George Washington at church in Philadelphia. He later asked her to sew the first American flag. A pattern for cutting a five-point star was given to each member with a piece of paper to use. Some very interesting results were seen. Refreshments of tea and crumpets were served. Fifteen members and two guests were in attendance.
