Police blotter — June 5

Samplings of recent calls to Portales law enforcement, according to police records:

Tuesday

• An officer responded to a call of a verbal domestic disturbance about 7:10 a.m. in the 1400 block of South Abilene Street.

A 56-year-old man said he and a 22-year-old woman were arguing because she comes home at 6 a.m. every day and leaves in the middle of the night. The woman said the man was always kicking her out of the house.

The woman agreed to pack some of her things and go to a friend’s house.

Later, the man talked to another officer on the phone and said his gold was missing. He said the woman put it in her bags while she was packing.

• About 11:05 a.m., an officer spoke to a 22-year-old woman at Portales Police Department about a missing headlight from her vehicle.

The woman said the headlight was taken while she was at work at a government building in the 1100 block of West Fir Street on May 27. When the officer asked why she’d waited so long to report the theft, she said she was too busy working.

The woman said the vehicle had been parked in front of the front doors, and she didn’t see anyone around it. The headlight was removed without damaging the hood, fender or area around the headlight.

The case is inactive due to lack of evidence.

• About 3:35 p.m., an officer was dispatched to Portales Cemetery for a larceny report. Four solar lights were reported stolen.

Wednesday

• An officer was sent to the 500 block of North Avenue L about 9:25 a.m. to remove a subject.

A 50-year-old man said he wanted his son removed. He also knew there was a warrant for his son’s arrest, which Portales dispatch confirmed.

The man reported the theft of a cell phone, trolley jack, 136-piece tool set, weed eater, saw and drill missing from his home. He gave a possible location for them.

The investigation was ongoing.

• An officer was dispatched to the 1900 block of South Avenue I about 11:50 a.m. in reference to a residential burglary report.

A 20-year-old woman said she left her home about 8 p.m. May 28 and returned about 11:50 a.m. Wednesday to find her flat-screen television and X-Box game console missing.

The woman said her keys wouldn’t work when she tried to get into her apartment. She suspected someone switched her keys, entered her apartment and took her belongings.

The property missing was being leased to own and wasn’t paid off.

The officer found no signs of forced entry and no other evidence. Other items of value hadn’t been taken.

• An officer went to the 300 block of East Seventh Street about 4:45 p.m. to handle a report of larceny at the city pool.

The first officer met another officer who said a 10-year-old boy had flagged him down and reported his $120 orange BMX bike had been stolen from the pool. The bike wasn’t locked up, he said.

When the first officer asked if the bike had any distinguishing features, the boy said it had only one brake, the front brake.

The officer had the boy call his mother, who came to the scene. The officer told her what happened.

The case is closed pending further leads.

Friday

• About 8:55 a.m., a 73-year-old woman reported damage to her mailbox. She said she found the mailbox in the street when she went to check the mail.

The mailbox seams were split at the side and rear, and it had a large dent that appeared to have been made by something the size of a baseball bat. The woman said the box had been damaged two other times, but her son reattached it to the post.
