Hounds fourth in LSC track

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Junior Mohammed Noor took first place in the 5,000-meter run and junior Bill Squire finished second in two events to lead Eastern New Mexico University’s men to a fourth-place team finish in the Lone Star Conference track meet, hosted by Tarleton State.

The three-day event ended Sunday. Abilene Christian won its 18th consecutive LSC men’s title with 223 points to 166 for Angelo State, 106 for Texas A&M-Kingsville and 83 for the Greyhounds.

The fourth-place finish for ENMU was its highest at the conference meet in the history of the program.

Angelo State took its third consecutive women’s crown with 197 points to 168 1/2 for ACU. ENMU finished last in the nine-team field with 26 points.

Noor posted a time of 15 minutes, 18.91 seconds in the 5,000. Sophomore Jacob Lozano and senior Richard Kogo, who finished less than a second apart, gave the Hounds a 1-5-6 showing in the event.

Squire was second in the hammer throw at 182-2 1/4 and in shot put at 51-10 3/4. He also finished eighth in discus.

Senior Daniel Draper threw 210-10 1/4 for second in javelin, while sophomore Pedro Martinez was second in the 3,000 steeplechase with a time of 9:35.57.

The best finish for the Zias was a third in the 3,000 steeplechase by junior Nicky Reid, with senior Theresa Chacon finishing sixth. Reid also place fifth in the 1,500 and eighth in the 5,000.
