Clovis shooting victim dies

A 26-year-old Clovis man died Tuesday from wounds received in a shooting last week.

Daniel Perez died at 9:15 a.m. (CST) at a Lubbock hospital, according to Undersheriff Wesley Waller.

Perez’ death marks the first homicide of the year in Curry County.

Police records indicate deputies were dispatched around 11:30 p.m. April 13 to the 900 block of South Valley Road on a report of a male shot in the head, but Waller declined to address specifics in the case or confirm the nature of Perez’ injuries.

“We found him laying on the ground in the neighborhood,” he said.

As of Tuesday, Waller said there had been no arrests, but “there are persons of interest that are being looked at with regard to their connection to this incident.”

Waller declined to discuss any details about the incident, terming the investigation active and ongoing.

“We’re not going to provide any specifics of what we know about the incident to protect the integrity of the investigation,” he said.

Waller said anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact the Curry County Sheriff’s Office at 769-2335 or remain anonymous by calling Curry County Crime Stoppers at 763-7000.

A fund in the victim’s name has been established to help the family with costs. Contributions can be made at any Wells Fargo Bank in Clovis and Portales.
