Police blotter — April 3

Samplings of recent calls received by Clovis-area law enforcement officers, according to reports:

Around 4 p.m. March 19 an officer responded to a residence in the 200 block of Buccaneer Loop for a report of men selling magazines door-to-door.

The resident said two men came to her door telling her they were selling magazines and when she told them she wasn’t interested, they started cussing at her.

Several other neighbors told the officer the men had come to their houses also, giving different stories of why they were selling magazines.

The officer made contact with the two males, who told him they were from Kansas working with a youth organization selling magazines for soldiers overseas and said they got points toward a scholarship if they sold magazines.

The males could not provide any paperwork for the company they were working for and said their manager had their permit for solicitation and they were supposed to meet him a couple hours later but couldn’t call him because he didn’t have a phone.

The officer issued them a citation for soliciting without a business permit.

About 3 p.m. March 20 an officer responded to a business in the 2000 block of 21st Street for a report of an ankle bracelet monitor that had been found.

A man said he was in the bathroom of the business and noticed the toilet tank was leaking.

When he opened the lid, he said he found an ankle bracelet wedged in the tank and noticed it had been cut.

The officer called a number printed on the monitor and found it belonged to a parole service in Colorado.

He logged the monitor into evidence.

Around 4 p.m. March 21, an officer responded to a residence in the 3000 block of Ben Hogan Drive for a report of theft.

A man said a handgun had been taken from his home and he believed it was taken by someone visiting his sons.

He gave the officer the names of people who had been in his home recently.

The gun was valued at $800 and listed as belonging to the city of Texico.

About 4 p.m. March 22 an officer filed a report of possession of child pornography.

The officer noted that while conducting Internet investigations on March 18, he observed an Internet address on a system he was monitoring that was downloading eight child pornography files.

Later that day, the officer documented that he connected to the Internet address and downloaded two images from a computer at that Internet address and identified them as child pornography.

The officer noted intent to obtain a subpoena for the Internet provider to obtain the identity of the subscriber.
