Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

My turn: Local talent impressive

I want to congratulate PNT columnist and Eastern New Mexico University’s Director of Media Relations Wendel Sloan on his recently acquired award for best columnist. I can’t imagine anyone who deserves it more. He is always a delight to read and work with.

I covered the Floyd Jamboree on Saturday night and the musical talent from local residents stretching from Floyd to Farwell was absolutely amazing. I always enjoy seeing how Floyd community members are so supportive of one another.

I also attended the Clovis Lions annual Gun and Knife Show Sunday. I walked around tables drooling over my new-found love which I cannot yet afford, 12-gauge shot guns. I’m seriously considering hanging out with the Portales police officers more, until I can buy my own big gun. Might as well be educated by the best, right?

This weekend is the Jack Williamson Lectureship and the High Plains Film Festival at ENMU. This is the first year the two have been combined and you can’t deny science fiction and film are a good match.

Also, check out the production of “Our Town” playing in Clovis at the Lyceum Theater today at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m.
