Muleshoe man elected board president

The Board of Directors of the National Telecommunications Cooperative Association (NTCA) elected Sandy Vandevender, executive vice president and general manager of Five Area Telephone Cooperative in Muleshoe, as president of its 2011 Board of Directors at its annual meeting in Dallas.

The National Telecommunications Cooperative Association is the premier association representing more than 570 locally owned and controlled telecommunications cooperatives and commercial companies throughout the United States. The Association provides members with legislative, regulatory and industry representation; meetings; publications and educational programs; and an array of employee benefit programs.

Vandevender has been in the telecommunications industry for more than 28 years serving in various capacities. He took the helm at Five Area Telephone in 2000, and has served as Region 10 Director on the NTCA Board of Directors for 6 years. He also serves on the board of directors of the Texas Telephone Association, and is past-president of the Texas Statewide Telephone Cooperative, Inc. He is a member of the Muleshoe Rotary club and serves as Vice President of the Muleshoe Area Educational Foundation.
