Zias drop pair at UT-Permian Basin

Freedom New Mexico

ODESSA, Texas — Tieifa Dueberry squeezed home a pair of runs, including the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh inning, and host Texas-Permian Basin edged Eastern New Mexico University 4-3 on Saturday in the Falcons’ softball triangular.

Earlier, the Zias dropped a 10-2 decision to East Central. They beat Permian Basin and lost to ECU on Friday to finish the weekend at 1-3.

ENMU (3-11) tied the score against the Falcons in the top of the seventh on a walk, two wild pitches and Tessa Fioritti’s sacrifice fly to left.

The Zias broke on top 2-0 in the second inning on an RBI single by Samantha Emms and a bases-loaded walk to Livingston, but they left the bases loaded.

UTPB (7-12) took the lead with single runs in the third, fourth and fifth off junior Erin Roufosse (2-10). The latter two scored on squeeze bunts, including by Dueberry in the fifth.

Roufosse went the distance, allowing eight hits and three earned runs with two walks and three strikeouts.

Earlier, East Central (10-3) erupted for four runs in the top of the third for a 5-0 lead and went on to beat the Zias.

Catcher Cami Correa had an RBI double and a solo homer for the Lady Aggies. Wanda Malone (5-2) allowed four hits and two runs — one earned — over six innings to gain the win.

Emms went 2-for-3 for the Zias, including an RBI single to center in the fourth.
