Dustdevils, Rattlers sweep Zias

SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary’s capitalized on three Eastern New Mexico University errors to score six unearned runs in the fifth inning en route to a 10-2 victory on Saturday in the St. Mary’s Classic.

ENMU junior right-hander Erin Roufosse (0-2) carried a 2-1 lead into the frame, thanks to a two-run single by junior second baseman Kate Medrano in the third. The Rattlers (2-0) cut the margin in half when shortstop Richelle Morales homered leading off the bottom of the inning.

Roufosse, who also took the loss in ENMU’s season-opening 10-7 setback to Texas A&M International earlier in the day, allowed nine hits and just two earned runs in the nightcap. She walked no one and struck out four.

ENMU faces Texas A&M-Kingsville at 9 a.m. (MST) today and St. Mary’s again at 1 p.m. to close out the weather-delayed event.
