Water testing offered

A water fair is scheduled for Saturday in Clovis, offering free water testing for Curry and Roosevelt County residents using private wells.

Hosted by the New Mexico Environment Department, the event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Roy Walker Recreation Center.

Residents wishing to have their water tested free of charge, should bring at least one quart of water in a sealed, clean plastic or glass container.

Water should be allowed to run from the faucet for a couple of minutes prior to being collected and should be drawn from an area in the water line where it has not passed through a treatment system, according to a press release.

Testing will screen samples for electrical conductivity, iron, fluoride, nitrate, pH and sulfate, the release said.
