Country club cited for gambling

Freedom New Mexico

State officials have cited the Portales County Club for gambling and a Department of Public Safety spokesman said Wednesday that investigators plan to meet with the district attorney to determine if criminal charges will be filed.

State Police Lt. Eric Garcia said a DPS Special Investigations Division agent issued the citation after checking at the country club just before 11 p.m. Dec. 30.

Garcia said the citation is an administrative charge and will be forwarded to the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department Alcohol and Gaming Division. He said the agency will review the citation and determine any possible penalties.

Garcia declined to release any further information until investigators meet with District Attorney Matt Chandler’s staff.

An attempt to contact representatives of the Portales Country Club wasn’t successful.
