My turn: Chocolate blessing too

I like Christmas.

I try to remember the holiday really is about a loving God stooping to our level, becoming human, to save us from our own shortcomings.

At the same time, I enjoy family, presents, the decorated tree and other things about the season. When I stop and look, I see the love and mercy of God in them.

As what might be one more blessing this Christmas, here’s a cocoa recipe used with permission from the Taste of Home website, http://www.tasteofhome.com.

Cinnamon Hot Chocolate Mix Recipe

1 3/4 cups nonfat dry milk powder

1 cup confectioners’ sugar

1/2 cup powdered nondairy creamer

1/2 cup baking cocoa

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 cup miniature marshmallows

In a large bowl, combine the milk powder, sugar, creamer, cocoa and cinnamon. Add the marshmallows; mix well. Store in an airtight container in a cool dry place for up to three months.

Yield: 18-19 servings (about 3 1/2 cups total).

To prepare hot chocolate: Dissolve about 3 tablespoons hot chocolate mix in 3/4 cup hot milk.

Yield: 1 serving.

A 3/4-cup serving made with skim milk has 141 calories.

Merry Christmas!
