La Cueva escapes with 21-14 win

After being held in check most of the second half, Ronnie Daniels got loose when it counted, scooting 22 yards for the game-winning touchdown with less than two minutes left in the game as La Cueva sidestepped Clovis' upset bid 21-14.

Trailing 14-0 af halftime in the Class 5A state quarterfinal contest, 10th-seed Clovis (5-7) rallied to tie the score at 14 on a 4-yard pass from Jordan Hill to Raymond Beachum and Quran Wiggins' 24-yard run with 6:44 to go.

But the second-seed (11-1) Bears pieced together their only sustained drive of the second half, capped by Daniels' third TD run.

A Texas Tech recruit, Daniels scored on runs of 55 and 16 yards in the first quarter.
