Nov. 22, 1948: The Portales Daily News: Portales High School nominated kings and queens for the coming carnival, originally scheduled to be Nov. 24, but postponed to Dec. 4. Senior class nominees were John Starkey and Ruthie Sharp; Charles Durrett and Sunnye Jean Lee were from the junior class, and Jimmy Rice and Bobbie Jean Visage represented the sophomore class.
