Ticket feature: Mixed martial arts competition to be hosted at events center

Saturday night is fight night in Clovis.

Evolution 1, a 16-bout mixed martial arts competition is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Curry County Events Center.

Presented by Evolution Combat Sports Championship, there will be eight amateur fights, six professional matches and two main events.

The main events will feature Amarillo’s Marcus “Money” Sursa against Buddy Roberts of Reno, Nev., and west Texas native Anselmo Martinez fighting Tim Stout of Georgia.

Among professional matches are three female fights.

Promoters say its sure to be an exciting and action packed night featuring some of the top MMA talent in the southwest.

“We are extremely excited to host Evolution’s first MMA event in our hometown of Clovis, New Mexico. This will be the first professionally run mixed martial arts fight event that has ever been held in our area,” said Martin Singleterry, founder of Evolution Combat Sports Championship on the organization’s website.

“Many low budget fly-by- night promotions have come through over the years, but never a bona fide high quality show. We created Evolution to give MMA a viable home in New Mexico.”
