Samplings of recent calls received by Clovis-area law enforcement officers, according to reports:
Around 9 a.m. Oct. 16 an officer responded to a residence in the 1000 block of East 13th Street for a report of a fire.
Fire officials told the officer they believed the fire, which burned on the upper level, to be an arson because it was an unoccupied home with no utilities and when they arrived a refrigerator had been pushed against the front door.
They also said they found two areas in the home where an accelerant had been used to start the fire.
The case was listed as active.

About 7 p.m. Oct. 16 an officer responded to a store in the 1000 block of Mitchell Street for a shoplifting report.
A clerk said a man came into the store and picked up a can of Fix-A-Flat from the shelf, then went to the other side of the store and got a bottle of water.
She said she saw him put the tire spray, valued around $6, in his pants, then he approached the register and attempted to pay for the bottled water.
She said when she asked him to empty his pockets, he refused and left the store.
The officer obtained video footage of the incident.

Around 1 a.m. Oct. 17 an officer responded to a business in the 2000 block of Prince Street for a report of attempted theft.
Employees reported a woman was trying to steal money from the tip jar.
The officer spoke to the woman, who denied trying to take any money.
She provided him with an ID card but when he noted the picture looked nothing like her, she admitted her true name.
The officer also noted the woman smelled strongly of alcohol and seemed intoxicated.
A check of her name revealed she was 19 years old and had an outstanding warrant for failing to pay fines.
She was arrested on the warrant and also for concealing her identity and being a minor in possession of alcohol.

About 1 p.m. Oct. 18 an officer responded to the parking lot of a business in the 3000 block of Prince Street for a report of battery.
The officer spoke with a woman who said she was driving to the store with her boyfriend when he started smoking in her vehicle.
She said she asked him not to smoke and they started to argue so she pulled into the parking lot, stopped and asked him to get out.
She said he pulled her hair and burned her on the shoulder with his cigarette, then left.
The officer photographed her injuries and took a description of the suspect, then obtained a warrant for battery to a household member.
