Candidate profiles: De Baca County

There are three contested De Baca County positions up for grabs in the Nov. 2 general election.

The race for magistrate judge in De Baca County is between incumbent Republican Buddy Hall, who has held the office for 16 years, and Democrat Rosalie Joiner.

Vying for probate judge are Republican John P. Wooton, a veteran high school teacher and coach and Democrat Leona Wood, a former probate judge who spent 12 years in the position before term limits forced her to sit out two terms.

Running for the District 2 commission seat are Democrat James Bell and Republican Adolfo Lucero, two retired government workers who want to see their town grow.

De Baca’s county seat is Fort Sumner, located about an hour west of Clovis.
