My turn: Student art impressive

I viewed a variety of artwork in a library this week.

Most of the artwork there was professional rather than amateur, so it struck me as funny when I stumbled across a work of art that seemed nothing more than a splash of paint on canvas.

Now, I am a fan of abstract art. I feel the more bizarre a piece of art is, the more creative it is.

But this piece of art did not strike me as that creative.

When I was a full time student at Eastern, I often walked the fine arts hallway in the liberal arts building and some of the student art displayed was amazing. I have seen some impressive art pieces come from Eastern’s amateur students and a lot of it has impressed me more than some professional art pieces I sometimes see.

As someone who loves to express their creativity through writing, I always look forward to seeing how others express their creativity through their own art form.

Something to look forward to next week is the Student Juried Art Exhibit at ENMU’s Golden Library. The exhibit opens Oct. 22 and is on display through Nov. 6.
