Bella Vista pinewood derby

On May 13 at 1 p.m., the Arts Academy at Bella Vista hosted the first annual pinebox derby car race. Nine students built one of a kind cars and competed against one another to identify the fastest car at Bella Vista.

Each student spent two months creating, painting and decorating their unique cars.

They raced their cars on a regulation pinebox derby care race track.

The first place winner was Javier Mendoza, second place went to Albert Ortega and third place went to Ti’Aun Jones.

Thomas Apodaca won the ribbon for the most impressive car.

This event was made possible with the assistance and support of several people. James Burns, owner of Burn’s Do-It-Center, Frank Cordova, district executive of the Conquistador Council and Gene Weber, district commissioner of Llano Grande Conquistador Council provided the race track and served as judges for the competition.
