ENMU squads sixth in LSC track

SAN ANGELO, Texas — Eastern New Mexico Univesity’s track teams finished sixth in the Lone Star Conference meet, hosted by Angelo State.

The three-day event concluded on Sunday.

Abilene Christian took the men’s team championship for the 17th consecutive season, scoring 205 points to 195 for Angelo State. Tarleton State was third at 108, Texas A&M-Kingsville and West Texas A&M shared fourth with 106, while ENMU scored 52 points and Texas A&M-Commerce finished with 44.

On the women’s side, host Angelo State won its fourth team title in seven years with 297 points to 204 for Abilene Christian. Rounding out team scores were West Texas A&M 88, Texas A&M-Kingsville 77, Tarleton State 73, ENMU 35, Central Oklahoma 19 and A&M-Commerce 13.

Highlights for ENMU on Sunday included a second-place finish by sophomore Nicole Reid in the 5,000 with a time of 11 minutes, 30.04 seconds.

For the men, junior Daniel Draper was fourth in javelin with a toss of 190 feet, 11 inches, nearly 12 feet ahead of fifthh-place Ted Dugie of Kingsville and an inch short of third-place Jacob McDonald of ASU.

Also for ENMU on Sunday, sophomore Kassie Daugherty was fifth in women’s discus at a season-best 135-2. Freshman Dustin Francke placed sixth in the men’s 800 with a season-best time of 1:57.17, and freshman Marcus Oakley placed eighth in men’s discus with a season-best toss of 152-7.
