A 61-year-old Clovis man is dead following an afternoon farm accident Wednesday.

Oscar Brooks was killed when a large round hay bale fell from a trailer and struck him, Curry County Undersheriff Wesley Waller said.

Just before 3 p.m., responders were dispatched to the scene, just off Llano Estecado Boulevard about a mile east of Humphrey Road.

Brooks was unloading a trailer of round bales at a farm owned by his family, Waller said.

Officials at the scene estimated one round bale can weigh anywhere from 1,500 to 2000 pounds.

The fatality is being classified as an agricultural accident, he said.
