A petition was in circulation around Portales for a local option election on legalizing package stores in Roosevelt County. Haskel Doyle, one of the coordinators of the petition, hoped to have enough signatures to be able to have the option included in the upcoming city election on April 7. If they were unable to obtain the signatures in time, supporters would have to work to gather signatures to include it in the general election in November.
