Broadcast to feature craft tips

Information on speech presentation tips, painting jeans and healthy eating for kids will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” at noon Tuesday and at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Robert Vartabedian will explain why it’s so important for every speaker to understand the various styles, needs and skills of effective speech delivery. He’ll talk about eight different presentation tips that will be helpful to the novice or even the experienced public speaker. He’s the president of a college in St. Joseph, Mo., and was formerly with Eastern New Mexico University.

Barbara Wurden, owner of Faux Fun Inc. in Long Beach, Calif., has had numerous requests over the years to decorate people’s jeans so they resemble her painting. She’ll show several pairs of pants that are embellished with paint from her wall-painting projects.

Lisa Daniel is a certified kids’ nutrition specialist, and she will talk healthy eating for kids over the summer break. She’ll discuss how to deal with a picky eater and explain why “light” foods may be bad for your child. Her company is 45Pounds, and she lives in Grass Plains, Texas.

Information on sewing professional collars and cooking with wild rice will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and at noon Thursday.

Sewing expert Judy Barlup of Unique Techniques in Bellevue, Wash., says that one of the ways to build shape in clothing is with a two-piece undercollar cut on the bias. Barlup will demonstrate making the perfect collar.

Chef Joe Domina will show the proper cooking method for wild rice as well as talk about storage and time-saving usage tips.
