Two men report robbery, assault

Two men were assaulted and robbed Saturday in the 800 block of University Drive near Eastern New Mexico University, according to Portales police.

Portales Police Capt. Lonnie Berry said James Williams of Clovis and Robert Powell of Portales were accosted about 10 p.m. by two males. The victims told police they were jumped by two men while walking to ENMU from a friend's house who lives a few blocks away, Berry said. They reported their wallets and phones were stolen.

Berry said police are in the process of obtaining arrest warrants based on statements by the victims and witnesses.
