Local 14-year-old polio victim Buster Wooten won the 4-H Cotton Production Contest, earning the title of "Roosevelt County Cotton Prince" and $75 cash after he successfully planted and harvested an acre of cotton on his father's farm northwest of Portales. From his labors, he earned a gross of $266.86 and a net of $194.96.
