Kingsville hands Hounds 12th straight loss

KINGSVILLE, Texas — Good board play and solid shooting weren’t enough

for the Greyhounds to get their first win in more than a month as the

Eastern New Mexico University men lost to Texas A&M-Kingsville

74-69 Wednesday night in a Lone Star Conference South game.

Junior forward Brandon Wilson led three Hounds (4-21, 0-10 LSC South)

in double figures with a game-high 17 points. Jimmie Marshall added 12

points and fellow junior Aaron King contributed 11.

Wendell Mulkey led the Javelinas (17-7, 7-2) with 16 points and Adam

Morris added 15 points off the bench. The win moved Kingsville into a

tie for first with Midwestern State.

The loss is the Greyhounds’ 12th straight.

In the first half, the Greyhounds (4-21, 0-10) controlled the tempo,

connecting on 56 percent of their shots en route to a slim 29-28 lead.

In the second half, the Javelinas turned Mulkey, who scored 13 of the

Javelinas’ first 16 points and assisted on the 3-pointer by Royce Gaye.

The Greyhounds hung tough through the first 10 minutes of the second

half, but an 8-0 run gave Kingsville a 55-46 lead with 9:54 remaining.

The Javelinas sealed their third-straight win and 10th in their last 12

games at the free-throw line, where they finished 18-of-22 in the
