Homicide suspect in custody

Clovis police today said they now have a suspect in custody for the killing of 54-year-old Elizabeth McAdams at her Lea Street home.

Capt. Patrick Whitney said the man is being held by police on unrelated warrants and has not been charged with the homicide.

“We believe we have the suspect, we’re not charging (him) until we’re positively sure this is our person, based on more evidence,” he said.

Whitney said the suspect was an acquaintance of McAdams. Police said they don’t believe McAdams’ slaying was random.

Whitney said a motive for the slaying has not been determined.

He said police also found the white Mercury Cougar driven by Jerry Casiano, 27, and Veronica Galvan, 32, — persons of interest in the homicide. But Whitney said the two were not in the vehicle and police have not contacted them.

Police believe the two may have information about the homicide.

McAdams was found Saturday morning by Clovis firefighters responding to a call. Police said her throat had been slashed and someone set several fires in her home in an attempt to cover up the evidence.
