Nov. 27 Police Blotter
November 26, 2008
Samplings of recent calls received by Clovis-area law enforcement officers, according to reports:
About 6 p.m. Nov. 15 an officer responded to a report of a crash at Manana and Gidding Streets.
Witnesses provided officers with a license plate number for one of the suspects and said two men on motorcycles left the area after one of them crashed into a man on a bicycle.
Officers located the suspects at a residence in the 100 block of Westerfield Street.
One of the men admitted he had crashed into the bicycle rider and got scared. He said he went home to get his wife to drive him back to the scene.
Both motorcycle riders were given field sobriety tests and were arrested for DWI and leaving the scene of the crash.
About 8 a.m. Nov. 16 an officer responded to a business in the 1,000 block of Seventh Street for an unsupervised child.
The officer spoke with the child, who appeared to be about 5 years old and was wearing only a pair of shorts.
The boy told the officer his mother was asleep and he climbed out of her window because he wanted some cocoa.
The clerk at the store said she gave the boy some hot chocolate because of the cold and said the boy comes in to the store about three times a week by himself.
The officer went to the boy’s house and made contact with the mother, who said her son often climbs out the window and she usually finds him waiting at the front door.
About 6 p.m. Nov. 16 an officer responded to a business in the 3,000 block of Prince for a theft report.
A clerk said a woman she knows came up to the counter and asked for a courtesy cup. The clerk said she had to go to the back to get the cup and as she was returning, she saw the suspect reach onto the counter and take a $20 bill that was laying near the register.
The officer saw surveillance footage showing the woman taking something off the counter and noted intent to obtain a warrant.
Around midnight Nov. 17 an officer responded to a business in the 3,000 block of Prince Street for a report of narcotics use.
The officer located the suspect in the bathroom of the store and smelled the odor of something burning.
Recognizing the suspect in connection with recent burglaries in the area, the officer patted the man down and found a pack of cigarettes that was unique and tied to a larceny case two days prior.
The suspect allowed officers to enter his home and search for stolen property.
They found some electronic items that seemed out of place and confiscated them as evidence. They also found marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
The man was arrested for possession of drugs.
