Top-ranked Midwestern beats Hounds

Freedom New Mexico

Southwest Soccer Conference champion Midwestern State managed only four shots on goal against Eastern New Mexico University on Friday, but it was enough as the Mustangs posted a 3-0 victory at the ENMU pitch.

Midwestern State (17-1, 7-0 SSC), which closes the regular season on Sunday at West Texas A&M, got a goal and an assist from Craig Sutherland

The Mustangs broke through nearly 27 minutes into the contest when Ahmad Ihmeidan one-timed a shot past ENMU goalkeeper Peter Horak on an assist from Sutherland. They made it 2-0 late in the half when Nick Auditore scored off a rebound, then Sutherland added his 16th goal of the season about 13 minutes into the second half.

ENMU (6-10-2, 3-4-1) finished the season third in the five-team SSC. The Hounds were playing their first match at home since an Oct. 8 win over West Texas A&M after finishing off a seven-match road stretch last weekend.
