State senators win unopposed

Stuart Ingle of Portales and Gay Kernan of Hobbs were unopposed in their re-election bids for the New Mexico state Senate.

“It’s hard to lose (when you’re unopposed), but I’m certainly glad the counties of Curry, Roosevelt, De Baca and Chaves support me,” said Ingle, the Senate Minority Leader who has been in the Legislature since 1985. “I’ll work as hard as I can for the next four years. We’ve got some tough times coming with the budget. We’ll work through it; we’ve had it before.”

Kernan has been serving since 2002.

“I want people to know I don’t take that for granted,” Kernan said. “I know I have a huge job ahead of me for the next four years. (The lack of an opponent) doesn’t mean I’m not going to fulfill my responsibilities.”
