UCO beats Zias in four games

EDMOND, Okla. — Central Oklahoma rallied for the final five points in Game 3, and the Bronchos went on to claim a 25-20, 23-25, 26-24, 25-15 Lone Star Conference volleyball victory over Eastern New Mexico University on Saturday.

Kristen Wilson compiled 22 kills and 23 digs for the Bronchos (11-16, 4-5 LSC), while sophomore Vernonica Valdez (14 kills, 11 digs) and senior Nicole Vanderploeg (10 kills, 13 digs) had double-doubles for the Zias (6-20, 0-6). Sophomore libero Caitlin Murphy finished with a match and season-high 33 digs for ENMU.

The Zias won a nip-and-tuck second game on a kill by Valdez, then led 22-17 late in the third. With the score 24-21, Central Oklahoma rallied back, getting the final three points on kills by Iten for a 2-1 lead in games.

UCO then pulled away in the fourth game, scoring 11 of the final 13 points after the Zias closed to 14-13.
