Clovis woman arrested for robbery

A 35-year-old Clovis woman is in jail after police said she stole beer and cigarettes from a convenience store Tuesday night using a pellet gun.

Cindy Mendoza was taken into custody a few hours after police said she robbed the Allsup’s on the corner of Sycamore and Mabry Drive.

She is charged with robbery and criminal damage. She is being held at the Curry County Adult Detention Center on $27,000 bond, according to jail officials.

According to a police press release:

• A male clerk at the Allsup’s told police about 10 p.m. around the suspect brought a 12-pack to the counter and asked for a pack of cigarettes, then asked the clerk if he had ever experienced a “beer run” before. When the clerk said no, she told him to “consider this his first one.”

• Mendoza started backing out of the store holding the beer and cigarettes, and when the clerk started moving toward the back of the store where a coworker was, she pulled a gun out and told him “don’t even think about it.”

• After the suspect left the store, the clerk discovered the phone didn’t work and called police on a cell phone. It was later discovered the phone lines going into the store had been cut and shoe prints matching the suspect’s were found nearby.

• Police located Mendoza a few hours later in the 1200 block of East Grand Street and found a pellet gun and clothes the suspect was reportedly wearing in a nearby vehicle.
