Never an excuse for abuse

It’s one of the oldest illnesses in our history as human beings. No, let’s be honest; it’s not an illness. It’s a symptom of, and a result of, evil.

Domestic abuse can take many forms; the causes may vary but the results are never excusable. Whether the abuse is mental, physical, emotional or sexual, whether the abused is child, spouse, parent or neighbor, the pattern is never okay or permissible.

Our society can teeter on the brink of turning perpetrators into victims. It’s not just a late-night comedy routine that depicts the system as sometimes excusing the inexcusable actions of violent, dangerous people based on the history of what they have suffered, where they have been, etc. Those comedy routines are grounded in reality.

The stand in our family is skewed, since an event in 2005 that took the life of a precious 3-year-old boy. October, as some of you realize, is domestic violence awareness month, but every day should be domestic violence prevention day.
