Commander’s Call

The Wildcats Corps of the Clovis High School Air Force JROTC will hold its Commander’s Call at 7:30 a.m. today at the JROTC drill field on the high school campus.

Ribbons and certificates for orientation flight recipients are the order of the day.

Navy Ball

VFW Post 3280 will be celebrating the U.S. Navy Birthday Ball at 5 p.m. Oct. 11 at VFW Post 3280, 200 W. Grand Ave.

Cost is $25 per person and $40 per couple.

A dinner choice of steak or chicken is available.

Athletic events opened to military personnel

All military personnel and dependents will be admitted to Eastern New Mexico University athletic events free of charge during the 2008-09 academic year, according to a school press release.

Ramsey

Air Force Airman Shayna N. Ramsey graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.

She is the sister of Raeni Daniel of Clovis.

Ramsey is a 2005 graduate of Portales High School.

Simpson

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Louis D. Simpson, son of Tim M. Bradley of Muleshoe, was awarded the Enlisted Fleet Marine Force Warfare pin after successfully completing the Enlisted FMF Warfare Program.

Simpson is a 2003 graduate of Muleshoe High School and joined the Navy in November 2003.

Chavez

Air Force Airman Eduardo H. Chavez graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.

He is the son of Valente Hernandez of Clovis.

The airman is a 2007 graduate of Clovis High School.

Abernathy

Army Pvt. Jeremy B. Abernathy graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

He is the son of Jake Abernathy of Bosque Farms.

His grandparents are Aden and Wanda Abernathy of Clovis.

Byrd

Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Jeremy D. Byrd, a 1996 graduate of Clovis High School, recently began a seven-month deployment to the Navy’s 5th and 6th Fleet area of operations in support of Maritime Security Operations and the Global War on Terror.

Byrd joined the Marine Corps in January 1997.

Sparrow

Navy Seaman Recruit Devon R. Sparrow, granddaughter of John Etheridge of Portales, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

She is a 2008 graduate of Alvin High School in Alvin, Texas.

Kindoll

Air Force Airman Matthew A. Kindoll graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.

He is the son of Janet Kindoll of Parker, Colo., and the grandson of Phylis Neave of Clovis.

He is a 2007 graduate of Chaparral High School in Parker, Colo.

Bauer

Army Pvt. Ronald J. Bauer has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

He is the son of James Bauer of Clovis.

He is a 2007 graduate of Clovis Community Collage.

Salazar

Army Pvt. Monica Salazar has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

She is the daughter of Bernardo Rodriguez of Muleshoe.

Snipes

Army National Guard Cadet Joe B. Snipes was one of 267 cadets who attended the 2008 George C. Marshall Foundation Awards Seminar at Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Va.

The cadet received the George C. Marshall ROTC Award at the seminar. The award is named in the honor and legacy of Gen. of the Army George C. Marshall, who served in World War II and outlined a post-war era program of economic assistance and recovery for worn-torn Europe.

The senior cadet is a student at New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell.

He is the son of Jimmie B. and Molly D. Snipes of McAlister.

He is a 2006 graduate of House High School.

James

Navy Seaman Apprentice Brittany B. James, granddaughter of Margaret B. Netcher of Clovis, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
