A 22-year-old Clovis mother of four died in a single-vehicle crash Friday on U.S. Highway 60 east of Vaughn, according to state police.
Suzanne M. Urioste died at the scene of the crash around noon, Sgt. Jason Waller said.
Urioste’s 2-year-old daughter was flown to an Albuquerque hospital with skull fractures. Her 1-year-old daughter was not injured, Waller said.
Family members have been contacted and are overseeing care of the children, he said.
Urioste was moving to Clovis from Los Lunas to be closer to her parents according to friends at the scene, Waller said.
Urioste was driving east on U.S. 60 when her 1965 Ford Galaxy veered into the westbound lane.
Waller said Urioste overcorrected and went into a broadside skid, causing her vehicle to flip at least four times.
She was not wearing her seat belt and was ejected, he said.
Police believe Urioste’s youngest daughter escaped injury because she was restrained in a child seat but the older child was unrestrained.
Waller said Urioste was following friends who were helping her move.
The friends knew of no reason why Urioste swerved suddenly, he said.
