Portales youth drowns

Freedom New Mexico

A 9 1/2-month-old Portales boy drowned Wednesday in the bathtub of his family’s residence in the 600 block of University Drive, according to Portales Police Capt. Lonnie Berry.

Berry said police responded to a 911 call at 9 p.m. to the residence of Jennifer and Steven Russell after they found their son in the bathtub.

The child, Haven Dee Griffith-Russell, was transported by ambulance to Roosevelt General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Berry said.

He said the death appears to be an accident.

The Office of the State Medical Examiner in Albuquerque will conduct an autopsy, Berry said.

He said he couldn’t provide details about the incident until he gets the autopsy results back from OMI.
