Clabaugh signs pair for ENMU baseball

Second baseman Garrett Cook of Deming and right-handed pitcher Justin Cotten of DeSoto, Texas, have signed national letters of intent to play baseball next season at Eastern New Mexico University.

Cook, who will be a junior, is transferring from Lamar (Colo.) Community College, while Cotton, a sophomore-to-be, is coming from Eastfield (Texas) College.

Cook, a high school teammate of ENMU catcher-designated hitter Paden Vendrely, hit .364 for Lamar in 2008 and compiled 10 doubles, 24 RBIs and 46 runs scored. He was second on the Runnin’ Lopes in stolen bases with 12, in 14 attempts.

Cotten pitched in nine games this spring for Eastfield, striking out 12 batters. The Harvesters finished their season with a 29-23 record.

Kcholi honored by ESPN the Magazine

Eastern New Mexico University junior Guy Kcholi was chosen to the All-District 6 team for track by ESPN the Magazine, based on accomplishments on the track and in the classroom.

Kcholi, a biology major, placed fourth in the 1,500 in the McMurry Relays in Abilene and finished 14th in the 800 in the Texas Tech Open, featuring mainly Division I competition.

Student-athletes must carry at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, have participated in at least half of their teams’ events and reached sophomore status academically and athletically to be eligible for all-district honors.
