CCC employees to receive pay raise

The Clovis Community College Board of Trustees renewed college president John Neibling’s contract during Wednesday’s monthly meeting.

Neibling’s contract is up for renewal annually.

Neibling, in his third year at CCC, will also receive a pay increase because of state legislation that increases state employees pay by 2 percent.

Neibling said his salary would increase from $141,750 to $144,585 a year.

Neibling said all CCC employees would receive a 2 percent raise.

Board chairwoman Gayla Brumfield said Neibling’s contract extension was based on his leadership during Cannon Air Force Base’s transition to a Special Operations Wing. She said enrollment at the college decreased during that time.

Enrollment at the college dropped by about 800 students in the last five years, according to CCC officials. In 2003 8,105 students were enrolled at the college, the number fell to 7,316 in 2007.

“I think obviously this has been a rough time for the community and the college because of the enrollment issue,” Neibling said. “But we’ve had a lot of support from the community and our legislators and we feel like we’re probably through the worst of it and hopefully within the next year of two we really hope to see the turnaround in enrollment here at the college.”

Brumfield said under Neibling’s leadership CCC has found other sources of enrollment such as Clovis High School students in dual credit courses.
