The New Mexico Cats, an AAU team from Clovis, took first place in the 11-and-under division of the AAU State/District championship Sunday in Albuquerque.
Brandi Gomez and Danni Williams posted double figures in a semifinal win over the El Paso Longhorns (Gomez 15, Williams 11) and the title game victory over the El Paso Sun (Williams 19, Gomez 11).
El Paso is included in the New Mexico region for geographical reasons.
Cats coach Regan Williams said the Sun defeated the Cats three times in four games last season.
The team will next play at nationals in Branson, Mo., June 27-July 5.
