ACT, SAT exams

Senior and junior students interested in attending a four-year university after graduation must take a college entrance exam, either the ACT or the SAT. The next ACT will be given June 14. Deadline to register is May 9. The next SAT will be given June 7. Deadline to register is May 6. Students can pick-up registration packets at the counseling and guidance office or register online at http://www.actstudent.org or http://www.collegeboard.com. Students may qualify for an ACT fee waiver. Visit the guidance office for more information regarding fee waivers. Seniors should also be applying to the colleges of their choice this month as well as obtaining scholarship information.

Boys and Girls State

Portales High School is selecting junior students to potential serve as delegates at the 61st Session of New Mexico Boys and Girls State. New Mexico Girls State will be held at Eastern New Mexico University from June 1-6. New Mexico Boy State will be held at Eastern New Mexico University from June 8-13. New Mexico Boys and Girls State is designed to educate youth in American citizenship. Applications are available in the counseling and guidance office.

Scholarships

Available scholarships are posted on the Portales Schools Web site in the schools section under Portales High School, Counselors Corner. Students can visit the counseling and guidance office for more information about college entrance exams, college admissions, and scholarships.
