Church hosts free health screenings

The Church of Christ at 16th and Pile streets in Clovis will sponsor an afternoon of free health tests, blood donations and a clothes giveaway Saturday, according to associate minister Allen McKinney.

Registered nurses and a local doctor will provide free testing for hearing, blood pressure, blood sugar levels and general health screenings, McKinney said.

United Blood Services will provide free cholesterol testing with all blood donations made that afternoon.

Free spring and summer clothing also will be available for all ages.

The event will take place from 1-5 p.m. Saturday. Anyone interested may call ahead to set up an appointment. Walk-ins also are welcome.

Lighthouse Mission seeks donations

The Lighthouse Mission ministry has a variety of needs this month to help stock their kitchen and service their discipleship outreach.

Food items that are needed include canned corn (gallon size), cereal, French salad dressing (gallon size), ranch salad dressing (gallon size), mayonnaise (gallon size), powdered sugar, white sugar, and cooking spray, according to a news release.

Various household and clothing items also are needed to help the Lighthouse Mission’s homeless outreach and men’s and women’s discipleship program.

This month, there is a need for towels, pots and pans, home decor, summer shoes, plus-size clothing, toasters, can openers, shampoo, body wash and toothbrushes, the news release said.

Donations may be taken to the Lighthouse Mission at 407 L. Casillas Blvd in Clovis.

Church hosts women’s conference

Spiritual Seekers will present a nondenominational, area women’s conference April 19 with guest speaker Vickie Arruda, president and founder of Pure Joy International Retreat Ministry.

The conference is free. However, anyone interested in attending the conference is asked to register by Monday so organizers will have a count for the luncheon.

The conference will take place at Central Baptist Church, 2501 N. Norris St. in Clovis.

Volunteers needed for High Plains crusade

Organizers for this month’s High Plains Harvest Crusade are seeking more volunteers to train and help with several areas, including publicity, counseling, follow-up ministry and youth outreach.

The High Plains Harvest Crusade is planned for 7 p.m. nightly from April 27-30 at the old Melrose High School Gym.

Area churches are working together to organize and sponsor the crusade, which will feature national evangelist Jay Lowder of Wichita Falls, Texas.
