The old Prince Lounge is about to embark on a new life — as a teen night club.
No longer a smoky bar, the building has been transformed with fresh paint, new flooring, renovated bathrooms and colorful lights.
Chad Cabledue, owner of the K-Otic Teen Night Club, said, “I understand where kids are coming from. I just want kids to be able to have fun in a safe environment.”
His sister, Sheri Robbins, a Clovis school teacher with a teenage daughter, helped inspire the club for 15- to 19-year-olds.
Robbins and Cabledue grew up in this area.
“There were things for us to do,” Robbins said. “We could go cruising Main Street. There were dances almost every weekend.”
Cabledue and Robbins said they researched the idea of a teen night club for 1 1/2 years before embarking on the project.
“The roughest thing was finding the right location,” Cabledue said. “This is perfect. It’s way better than what I thought we’d have.”
“We want teens to be safe but individual. We want them to feel like this is theirs,” said Robbins. “And keep them off the streets and away from drinking.”
The club will have a soda bar, with flavored frozen drinks and snacks, and a water bar with 40 types and flavors.
Music will be provided by a disc jockey, with a state-of-the-art sound mixer. Later, Cabledue hopes to bring in bands.
In addition to music, there will be video games, pool tables and foosball.
“There’s nothing like it within 100 miles or farther,” said Robbins, who will manage the club.
Government-issued photo ID cards are required for entry to the club, which will also have security cameras inside and out and security staff.
Teens will not be allowed to bring in backpacks or purses, and will have to empty their pockets and be checked with a metal detector.
Teens will be banned from the club for fighting, vandalism, aggressive behavior or harassment, weapons or drugs. They will have one chance if they are caught using alcohol or tobacco, or wearing inappropriate clothing. A second offense will lead to banishment.
Cabledue and Robbins said the building’s owners, Craig and Kip Pettigrew, are supportive of the new business, which will employ about 10 people.
